Dentures

Dentures are removable dental prostheses used to replace missing teeth, and they are supported by either the soft and hard tissues of the mouth, other remaining teeth, or implants. Although there is no true substitute for natural teeth, dentures are an effective and many times less costly way to replace teeth in the patient who is missing some or all of their teeth.

Complete dentures

These are for the patient who is missing all of his or her teeth on one or both arches. By using special materials to make moulds of the mouth and by working closely with our dental laboratory, we can fabricate a denture which will provide the patient with an esthetic and functional appliance to replace the missing teeth. Dr Lowry will work with his patient to create a denture which looks natural and allows for an adequate level of chewing function. In some cases on the upper arch and in many cases on the lower arch, additional support through the placement of implants may be required to achieve an acceptable level of  function and comfort.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are designed for patients missing one or more teeth on one or both arches. Partial dentures are custom designed and fabricated by Dr Lowry and a dental laboratory to provide the patient with a custom fit appliance to replace the missing teeth. Partials are supported by the remaining teeth in that arch as well as the underlying bone. Partials can many times provide a more cost effective way to replace missing teeth, even though the resulting function will probably not be quite as good as what could be achieved with a bridge or implant.

Implant overdentures

Implant overdentures have become a standard of care in cases where it is difficult to retain a conventional complete denture (this is the majority of patients needing their lower teeth replaced). By placing an implant with a special attachment and by customizing the denture to then lock onto this attachment, we can provide patients with dentures which stay in place during speech and chewing while maintaining a very esthetic appearance for the patient.
